NASW-ND Statement on the Uncovering of UND Tribal Remains

Written in collaboration with NASW-ND’s Northeast Region Representative, Katie Dachtler

NASWND Chapter 0 882

The National Association of Social Workers, North Dakota Chapter (NASW-ND) was appalled to hear of the Indigenous ancestral remains of 70 relatives and numerous artifacts desecrated in 250 boxes on the University of North Dakota (UND) campus. We acknowledge the university’s turbulent history with tribal nations and the suffering that these findings raise. We grieve alongside our sovereign nations. While we know that another apology does not begin to ease the pain inflicted, we are committed to amplifying your needs and wants throughout the repatriation process as well as support your healing and well-being.

Time: 11:00am to 12:30pm CST
Speaker: Wendy Pitts Reeves, LCSW
Description: Clinical social workers often feel called to make the world a better place, yet they do so at the expense of their own mental, physical and financial health. They save lives, change family trees, and uplift entire communities. Don’t they deserve to be paid well for what they do? Yes, they do. Learning how to lead a successful private practice enables them to serve their communities at a higher level. Learning how to treat themselves with respect strengthens our entire industry. In this engaging and practical presentation, students explore the 7 pillars of a profitable, enjoyable - and impactful - private practice.
