Desccription: This NASW-IL presentation focuses on how Social Workers can support women experiencing chronic stress on a micro and mezzo level by examining how the unique social, economic, and cultural factors impacting Black women contribute to their specific stressors. Chronic stress is a pervasive issue affecting Black women. Black women are dealing with stressors and demands that impact their mental well-being. Statistically speaking, Black women are 20% more likely to report serious psychological distress than their white counterparts according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In addition, Black women have higher rates of poor physical health outcomes as a result of psychological stress that often goes undetected. Practitioners will learn how they can support women experiencing chronic stress on a micro and mezzo level by examining how the unique social, economic, and cultural factors impacting Black women contribute to their specific stressors.
