Description: This training will provide participants with a learning opportunity on how social welfare and state policy influence providers in being a service to undocumented immigrants in Nevada—additionally, best practices in maneuvering through social structures to serve immigrant communities better.
Presenter: Jahahi M. Contreras;
Jahahi is a licensed social worker who has primarily served undocumented immigrants in Northern Nevada. She was the first social worker in the Nevada System of Higher Education to primarily serve undocumented students in higher education. In her role she developed collaborative programming and services that supported marginalized students and community members to improve access to higher education.
Presenter: Mariana Sarmiento Hernandez;
Mariana manages the Undocumented Student Program at the Nevada State Office of Community, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (CEDI). As a DACA recipient raised in Las Vegas, she is passionate about increasing access to higher education for undocumented communities. Mariana earned her Sociology BA and Master of Social Work degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
