Description: Supported Decision-Making (SDM) went into law in 2019. The American Bar Association calls it a “cutting edge alternative to guardianship." SDM is a way to help support a person with a disability so they can be an independent (legal) decision-maker - whether they are in a guardianship, at-risk of having a guardianship, or they just need a little help. This presentation looks at how we make decisions, who makes decisions, and how the decision-making process can be supported for people with disabilities if they choose to have a supporter or supporters.
Participants will learn what Supported Decision-Making is, how it relates to guardianship, and how to use Supported Decision-Making.
