Description: This presentation will address the risks involved in working with trauma survivors, ways to reduce the risk in treatment, and how to protect our clients from additional emotional distress. We will discuss the approaches to working with survivors of trauma, which is grounded in recognizing the safety of everyone in sessions. The presentation will begin with the role of shame that trauma survivors face after a traumatic experience., distinguishes shame from other emotions, and discuss methods in which the clinician and the client must interact to reduce harmful risks.
